We are excited to announce that our annual Sagra de Maiale is scheduled for next Sunday, September 18th from 12pm till 6pm, with a tentative rain date of September 25th. As most of you know, the Pig Roast is an opportunity to bring our community and friends together to celebrate the coming of Autumn. This year’s event is particularly dear to us because a percentage of profits will be donated to relief efforts for the recent earthquake that occurred in Central Italy.

Apart from extending you a personal invitation to the event that day, I am asking for your help. One of the most important steps to receive approval is displaying strong support from local friends and neighbors to the Community Board. The meeting is being held on Monday, September 12th at 6:30pm. I would sincerely appreciate your attendance to help push the Community Board in our favor.     #InsideTheAlimentari: Our Olive Oil

    Our oils are all ‘Extra Virgin’, meaning that the olives are harvested at the beginning of the season (first or second week in October). The Olives are then ‘cold pressed’ meaning that they are processed in a mill with no added heat. Extra Virgin Olive Oil contains no more than 1 percent oleic acid- it is made from under-ripe olives that naturally contain less acid and more antioxidants.

    We feature three varietals:

    Taggiasca is produced by la Baita in Liguria. The oil is light yellow/green. It is nutty, buttery and gently herbal with a hint of fruit. This is our lightest oil- if someone is looking for something that is good to cook with but is also a beautiful condiment, Taggiasca is our most versatile oil.

    Biancolilla is produced by Galufo, in Sicilia. The olives are grown in arid soil in Western Sicily- this causes a low yield from the fruit and an oil that is delicate and unfiltered. Biancolilla has a super complex flavor and scent- orange blossom, fresh cut glass, lightly fruity with a long, spicy finish. The oil is good for crudite, finishing dishes, or lightly sauteed dishes.

    Moraiolo is produced by Pandolfi , in Umbria. The trees grow at a high altitude in a harsh climate and have to struggle to obtain nutrients. The resulting taste is super spicy, grassy and herbaceous with artichoke flavors and a persistent smokiness. This is our most full-bodied oil.

    We import our oils directly from Italy to ensure that we are providing the highest quality product to our guests. We offer the oils in refillable bottles in the Alimentari in small medium and large sizes, so there is something for everyone. We refill the oils at a $2 discount.
